Happy Sunday Everyone.
So this is a short and sweet post.. well not quite sweet but you get where I am coming from.
OK I have a question for all the book readers, booklovers, bookbloggers, bookyoutubers well basically everyone out there who reads a book.
What do you do when you don’t like a book, do you DNF it? So DNF mean DID NOT FINISH. I have rarely not finished a book as I like living with the hope that the book will get better the more I read it. However here is my dilemma….
I am starting to get many requests to read books from authors and publishers which is AMAZING and I am not moaning one little bit, it has taken me years to get here and I want to stay here HOWEVER what do you do when you don’t like the book that you have agreed to read and review for said authors and publishers?
I have literally DNF’ed two books in my whole time being a Bookstagrammer and Blogger. I feel bad when I do this as I want to love the story being told so much but sometimes I just can’t get on with the book.
I have to be honest here I enjoy around 85% of all the books I read, I give most a rating of 4 stars and more, 3 for ones I have enjoyed but were not worth reading again.
AHHHH so you see my dilemma, I feel that I am honest in my opinions and reviews of the books I have read, I am never rude when I review a book as I always find something that I do enjoy about it but sometimes its just not for me!

I’ve had the same problem recently. I try and read the books I’m given to give a fair review at the end but I’m just honest and say that I didn’t enjoy certain bits of the book and it wasn’t for me but that’s just my opinion 🙂

Thank you so much for commenting!! I’m the same I praise the bits I did like and say the bits I don’t. Polite but fair! And you I always state its my opinion and encourage everyone to read the book and form their own opinion!

It’s a tricky one when you’ve agreed to review a book for someone – I think what I would do is ‘skim read’ to the end just to say that I’ve finished it. I rarely do review requests for this exact reason, that if I don’t like the book I still need to review it… and I’m always honest.
I try not to DNF a book but if I do, it’s usually a library book. I don’t review the ones I don’t finish.

I always finish a book if I’m reviewing it as i think it’s common courtesy and will always be polite whilst reviewing but your right a lot skim reading and have only ever done this once as I usually enjoy all the books I get to review.

I hardly ever DNF a book, mostly just in case it gets better or because it might cause me to fall behind in my Goodreads challenge. I only DNF when the writing style or developing plot is so far out of my comfort zone.

Totally agree with this! I have pushed through a couple that I should of DNF.

I don’t review books that I DNF. If it was from an author or publisher I would drop them a message saying, in as nice a way as possible, that the book just wasn’t for me. I’d find it easier to do that than to force myself through a book knowing that I am going to write a review where it will be hard to find something good to say. It doesn’t help me, the publisher or the author. I have only ever DNF’d a couple of books and luckily they were my own books.

I agree, I have only ever not finished books that I have personally bought. I am quite honest when reviewing I think and you’re right if I don’t like a book I need to let the publishers know.
